This article is from the Realty Times website by Broderick Perkins today. Call it the U.S. Department of $100 Down Housing. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is offering its foreclosed homes for a mere $100 down from now until October 2012.  HUD like other federal agencies, are anxious to unload properties they hold, because they can be a financial drain.  Of course you'll have to qualify for a mortgage, you may have to pays some closing costs, the deal isn't available everywhere and the condition of the homes is … [Read more...]

HARP Update Image

By Reuters as reported on CNBC.com: U.S. homeowners who owe more than their houses are worth will get new help to refinance in a government plan to be unveiled as early as Monday to support the battered housing sector, sources familiar with the effort said.   The Obama administration has been working with the regulator for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to find ways to make it easier for borrowers to switch to cheaper loans even if they have little to no equity in their homes. The regulator, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, … [Read more...]

Illinois sees increase in foreclosure filings in 2011

foreclosure-next-exit-sign

Well, I hate to be right when it comes to increasing foreclosure filings, but I am :-).  I wrote a blog post about 2 mos ago (okay, not THAT long ago), but it was a story about the DECREASE in foreclosure filings.  The media (and yes even the National Assoc of Realtors) is out there trying to make it sound like things are improving. Don't believe it.  Any decrease is still only temporary.  I work with real estate investors and other buyers on a DAILY basis.  There is BARELY a downward trend on foreclosure filings and it is not … [Read more...]

If Mortgage Rates Keep Falling, Why Are Home Sales So Bad?

CNBC-LOGO

I follow Diane Olick on CNBC quite a bit.  She recently wrote this blog about falling mortgage rates and falling home sales.  Contracts to purchase existing homes plunged a far weaker-than-expected 11.6 percent in April, the heart of the spring housing season.   The National Association of Realtors' Pending Home Sales Index is now 26 percent below its cyclical high in April of 2010, which was the deadline for the now-expired home buyer tax credit.  "The pullback in contract signings is disappointing and implies a … [Read more...]

foreclosure-next-exit-sign

Foreclosure notices dropped to 9,592 in February, a 27 percent decline from January 2011 and a nearly 45 percent drop compared to a year ago, RealtyTrac reported.  Nationally, foreclosure filings dropped 14 percent from January 2011 and 27 percent from a year ago. It is a very short term trend due to the foreclosure freezes put in place . “Foreclosure activity dropped to a 36-month low in February as allegations of improper foreclosure processing continued to dog the mortgage servicing industry and disrupt … [Read more...]
